The Eastern Suburbs are well-connected by public transport. Multiple train lines are directing here, such as the Belgrave, Lilydale, and Glen Waverley lines serve the region. Driving to the Eastern Suburbs? Taking the Eastern Freeway makes for an easy drive into the city.
Melbourne’s East
The Eastern suburbs of Melbourne have heaps of character, and you’ll be able to explore these parts of Melbourne easily. Known for their leafy streets, prestigious schools and family-friendly vibes, the Eastern Suburbs offers a balance of green spaces with the convenience of the urban. The Eastern suburbs are generally classed as anything East of Richmond.
Camberwell
It’s only 20 minutes away from the city, and it’s known for its pretty heritage architecture. The Sunday Market offers cool collectibles and vintage goods at a great market price! Grab a coffee from one of the stylish cafes on Burke Road. Check out the charming Art Deco Cinema Rivoli Cinemas and catch a new movie there.
Hawthorn
With prestigious bars and restaurants, a private school, and grand gold-rush architecture from a bygone era, Hawthorn hosts a whole variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. Wander along Glenferrie Road with a late-night ice cream, or clink a glass of wine on one of its chic rooftops.
Kew
Check out the regal suburb of Kew. With pretty gardens and quaint architecture, Kew is an affluent suburb full of old homes and peaceful parks. Don’t forget to check out the Studley Park Boathouse. There are plenty of lovely walks along the riverside here, such as the Yarra Bend Park Walk in Studley Park. It’s a small slice of the bush in a very close proximity to the CBD. You won’t believe the city is only 15 minutes away!
Box Hill
Known for its strong Chinese community, Box Hill is a bustling, thriving multicultural melting pot of culture and cuisine that is brimming with restaurants! Check out Box Hill for a delicious place to eat Chinese food. It is one of the best Asian food scenes in Melbourne. From Korean BBQ to bubble tea, you’ll find plenty of places to perch up for some 10/10 Asian food.
Dandenong Ranges
Eventually, if you keep going East, you’ll get to the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. This beautiful section of rainforest feels a million miles away from Melbourne! It’s hard to believe the CBD is only 45 minutes away. Visitors can climb aboard the Puffing Billy Railway and explore the sprawling greenery and bushlands.
