Frequently Asked Questions About Melbourne City Tours

Where can you see snow near Melbourne?

Mt Buller and Lake Mountain are the two closest snowfields, and we run day tours to both. Lake Mountain is the gentler option, good for tobogganing and snow play. Mt Buller has lifts and runs for skiing and boarding. Neither is in Melbourne itself; the city does not get snow.

How far is Mt Buller from Melbourne?

Mt Buller is about 240 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, roughly three hours by road each way. Snow chains may be required on the mountain road in winter, depending on conditions. Our tours take care of the driving, including the alpine section.

When is the snow season in Victoria?

Victoria’s snow season generally runs from June to October, although the timing and amount of snow can vary from year to year. July and August typically offer some of the best opportunities for snow, particularly in the alpine resorts.

What is there to do in Melbourne in one day?

The Melbourne City Sightseeing Tour ($89) covers the core in a day: Federation Square, Flinders Street Station, the Shrine of Remembrance, the MCG, and Lygon Street. If food is the priority, the Foodie Culture Tour ($180) works through the laneways instead.

What are the best day trips from Melbourne?

The Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island are the two big ones and have their own tours. For our tours, the Yarra Valley food and wine tour ($180), Mornington Peninsula and hot springs ($185), Puffing Billy and wildlife ($215) tours are some of the day trips that leave the city and return the same evening.

Do I need a car to see Melbourne and Victoria?

Not for the city. Trams cover central Melbourne and the City Circle tram is free. Getting out to the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, the Yarra Valley or the snow is different, because public transport either does not go there or takes most of the day. That is what the coach tours are for.

Which Melbourne tour suits a first visit?

The Must Do Melbourne package ($275) bundles the main ones. If you are picking a single tour, the City Sightseeing Tour ($89) gives you the layout of the city and the landmarks, and it leaves your evenings free.

What is the weather like in Melbourne?

Melbourne’s weather can be quite changeable throughout the year. A summer day can start around 18°C and reach 38°C by the afternoon, before temperatures drop again when a cool southerly arrives. Winter is generally cooler, with temperatures around 7 to 15°C and periods of rain. Bring layers and something waterproof, especially for outdoor tours.
