Puffing Billy and Wildlife Tour Itinerary

Hop aboard the Puffing Billy steam train for a trip on one of Victoria’s most unique attractions. Spend the full day surrounded by incredible scenery, while you travel through the Dandenong Ranges, taking in the diverse wildlife both in the forest and at a wildlife sanctuary.

Your full-day journey will begin in Melbourne as you join your experienced tour guide, taking a short drive to the Dandenong Ranges, located just to the east of the city. On the first stop of the tour, you can enjoy some time at the Grants Picnic Reserve in Sherbrooke Forest. You will find yourself surrounded by lush fern gullies and tall mountain ash as you weave your way along the walking trails. As you stroll through the dense forest, be sure to keep an eye out for the vibrant native birds perched high above and other fascinating critters you may spot along the way.

After spending some time strolling through the forest, you will get to hop on the historic Puffing Billy steam train to see even more of the sprawling Dandenong Ranges. While on board you will hear the train whistle as Puffing Billy makes its way across the picturesque countryside. You can dangle your feet over the side of the train, breathing in the fresh mountain air, on the one-hour journey. You’ll want to remember to bring your camera to capture the beauty of the rolling hills and dense forest all around.

We’ll head north after our train journey to the Healesville Sanctuary Wildlife Park where you will get to see a diverse range of animals up close and personal. You can see Tasmanian Devils and Koalas along with many other cute creatures as you make your way across the wildlife park. The park’s enthusiastic guides will be happy to teach you all about the animals they care for, while also providing spectacular presentations of the animals.

After a day of exploring the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, we will make our way back to Melbourne to finish our tour.
