What is the best month to visit Melbourne?

Melbourne is one of the greatest cities to visit in Australia. The city has everything, like the best coffee, sports, and live music!

March is the best month to visit Melbourne. It’s the start of autumn so the weather isn’t too hot and just before the city starts getting colder. Plus, football is back so there’s always something to do on the weekend. Visiting in March also means Melbourne isn’t as busy as the summer months! So, let’s talk about what you can do when you visit one of Australia’s best cities.

MCG

Almost every weekend the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has an event. Whether it’s Australia’s own football, cricket, soccer, or live music. MCG is also one of the biggest stadiums in the world holding more than 100,000 people. You can do a tour of MCG to learn more about the stadium’s highlights and history.

Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world. You can see the Twelve Apostles, Apollo Bay, Otway Rainforest, and so much more! Though, the weather is always a bit unpredictable when you’re travelling along the Great Ocean Road. So, make sure you’re prepared for four seasons in one day.

Summer Night Market

Between November to March, the Queen Victoria Summer Night Market is on. The Summer Night Market runs every Wednesday night. But the Summer Night Markets do finish in March, so just check the date! You might get lucky and sneak in right before it closes. If you do miss out, Queen Vic Markets are open every day besides Wednesday. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the markets are open from 6 AM to 3 PM. Saturday the markets are open from 6 AM to 4 PM and Sunday it’s open from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Phillip Island

No trip to Phillip Island is complete without going to the Penguin Parade. The Penguin Parade is home to the largest fairy penguin colony. At sunset, these little penguins arrive at the beach and waddle up to go to their burrows. You’ll be able to watch them from one of the few viewing platforms.

Yarra Valley

Yarra Valley is one of Melbourne’s best wine regions and is about an hour’s drive from Melbourne city. We recommend booking a winery tour so you can try some delicious wine. This gives you the stress free of trying the wines without having to worry about driving. The Yarra Valley region is best at producing pinot noir, chardonnay, shiraz, and cabernet sauvignon wine types.

There is just nonstop entertainment happening in Melbourne. Without a doubt, if you visit in March or any month, you’ll find something to do. Just remember to get a coffee when you’re here! Melbourne is the coffee capital of the world after all.
